About the Artist

Rembrandt was born in the Netherlands in 1606 and died in 1669; he was a painter representative of the Dutch Golden Age. Even amid the currents of Baroque art, he built his own distinctive style and is famous for expressing profound emotion through the harmony of light and shadow. His body of work focused on accurately depicting human emotion and physical presence, showing outstanding sensitivity especially in portraits and self-portraits. His masterpieces include numerous self-portraits and paintings depicting biblical scenes, which reflect his artistic introspection and careful compositional skill.
