About the Artist
Paul Signac was a painter born in France in 1863 and died in 1935, who began in Impressionism and went on to lead Neo-Impressionism. Together with Seurat, he developed pointillism, known for his distinctive technique of rendering color through individual dots. Signac's artistic world is marked by simple yet vivid color and form, with works depicting the sea and harbor scenes standing out in particular. Signature works include 'Saint-Tropez Harbor,' 'Marseille Harbor,' and 'Port of Le Croisic'; he also authored the Neo-Impressionist theoretical text 'From Eugène Delacroix to Neo-Impressionism.' An avid sailor, he beautifully captured the changing qualities of nature and light through paintings themed on the sea.
