Nicolas Poussin

About the Artist

Nicolas Poussin was born in Les Andelys, Normandy in 1594 and died in 1665, a French painter. Working for a long period in Rome, he was recognized as a leading painter of Classicism. Poussin was influenced by Raphael, studied the artistic refinement of the Carracci school, and produced work grounded in classical aesthetics. His artistic world emphasizes reason and harmony, marked by balanced composition of figure and setting. Signature works include 'Et in Arcadia Ego' and 'The Triumph of Bacchus,' which well reflect Classical aesthetics.
