About the Artist
Camille Pissarro was born in 1830 in the Danish West Indies, an Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter active in France. He contributed to the development of Impressionism and played an important role in the transition to Post-Impressionism. Pissarro's artistic world focused on depicting everyday scenes and people within nature with warmth and realism. He emphasized the shifting qualities of natural light and color, breaking from traditional technique to offer a new perspective. He was the only painter to show work in every Impressionist exhibition in Paris, exerting a major influence on Post-Impressionists such as Cézanne, Seurat, and Gauguin. He was respected in particular by younger artists as both an intellectual mentor and a friend.
