Georges Seurat

About the Artist

Georges Seurat, born in France in 1859 and died in 1891, was a Post-Impressionist painter active in Paris. He developed the original painting technique of Pointillism, which had a major influence on modern art. Seurat's art is marked by a harmony of sensibility and logical thinking. His signature work 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' heralded the beginning of Neo-Impressionism and is regarded as an important turning point in modern art.
