Giorgione

About the Artist

Giorgione, born in the 1470s and died in 1510, was an Italian High Renaissance painter active in Venice. Known for works with a poetic mood and ambiguous meaning, only about six works are now firmly attributed to him. Giorgione founded the Venetian school, which emphasized the use of color and atmosphere, presenting a distinctive style that contrasted with Florence's drawing-centered approach. His work often carries a mysterious quality and holds an important place in art history.
