John Everett Millais, born in 1829 and died in 1896, was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and a painter active in Britain. A prodigy who entered the Royal Academy at age 11, he helped launch the Pre-Raphaelite movement at 83 Gower Street, London. His work is marked by naturalism, detailed depiction, and an emphasis on religious themes. One of his signature works, 'Christ in the House of His Parents' (1850), sparked much controversy at the time, while 'Ophelia,' completed in 1852, exemplifies the classic Pre-Raphaelite painting style.
