Jean-Honoré Fragonard was a Rococo artist born in France in 1732 and died in 1806. Active mainly in Paris, he was known for his flamboyant, emotive style. His work centers on genre and still-life painting, imbued with a sweet mood and hedonistic elements. Paintings that convey an intimate, secretive atmosphere in particular are regarded as his signature style. Fragonard was a prolific painter of the Ancien Régime era, leaving behind more than 550 paintings.
