About the Artist

Ivan Shishkin, born in 1832 and died in 1898, was a Russian Realist painter active mainly in central and western Russia. Closely associated with the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers), he was known for landscape paintings that depicted nature accurately and vividly. Shishkin's artistic world is marked by a Realist approach that captures fine natural detail and shifts in light with great skill. His signature work 'Edge of the Forest' shows his skill in depicting nature to great effect.
