Ivan Kramskoi, born in 1837 and died in 1887, was a painter of the Russian Empire and a leading figure of Realism. Active from the 1860s to the 1880s, he played a central role in the Russian art world, leading many artists as head of the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers). His artistic world focuses on honestly depicting human emotion and social reality. He drew particular attention for exploring individual inner life deeply and portraying reality without exaggeration. Signature works include 'Peasant of the Russian Empire' [likely 'A Russian Peasant' or similar], which well illustrates his Realist approach.
