About the Artist
Abdulmejid II, born in 1868 and died in 1944, was the last Caliph of the Ottoman Empire. He served as the spiritual leader of the Islamic world during the empire's final period. When the Ottoman Empire dissolved in 1922, he assumed the office of Caliph, but when the caliphate was formally abolished in 1924, he went into exile in France, where he lived out his life.
