Andrea del Sarto

About the Artist

Andrea del Sarto, born in 1486 and died in 1530, was a painter of the Italian High Renaissance. Active mainly in Florence, he drew attention for his refined technique and balanced composition. His work reflects well the Renaissance aesthetics of the human body and naturalism, showing a skillful handling of the harmony of light and shadow. His religious paintings in particular were highly regarded for their artistic treatment of theological themes. He went on to influence later Mannerist artists, a painter who embodies the essence of the Renaissance.
