About the Artist

Alfred Sisley, born in France in 1839 and died in 1899, was an Impressionist painter. Spending most of his life in France, he painted mainly Impressionist landscapes. Sisley focused on painting outdoors from life, showing perhaps the most consistent commitment among the Impressionists. He preferred natural landscapes over figure painting, frequently depicting rivers, bridges, and rural scenery. Signature works include his Thames River series and landscapes near Moret-sur-Loing, his work marked by a tranquil mood and soft color.
